It's December - a time of many celebrations: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, the New Year ... A lovely time of holiday cheer, sparkling lights, joyful music, great family traditions... It's also a time of bad traffic, major over-consumption and high stress... As with everything else, what we experience this Holiday Season will be determined by what we focus on and choose to allow into our life.
This year, I have decided to focus on celebration! And there's plenty to celebrate: our wonderful family, the Holidays, gorgeous crisp weather, the smell of the Christmas tree and the twinkling lights in the neighborhood. I am also celebrating all the big and small accomplishments of 2013. And there were many... among them creating this website and starting this blog..
For some reason, I have never done this before - reviewing the previous year before welcoming in the new one. During this time of the year, there seems to be a lot of focus on the future: goal-setting, planning, creating New Year's resolutions and I have always fallen into the same pattern, following the popular trend.
Last year, I tried something different - I started Leonie Dawson's Create Your Incredible Year Workbook and Planner, which invited me to review the previous year with a wonderful Closing Ceremony. As I began looking back, at the first glance there was no major accomplishments and not much to celebrate...it was an ordinary year, nothing outstanding However, when I looked more closely and spent a little time reflecting, I discovered that, indeed, I had done a lot of great things that I was really proud of. At the end, I was truly amazed at what a great year it's been!
So, instead, of dreading the year ending too soon or jumping ahead into the future, I invite you to spend a little time reflecting back at the current year. It can be hard to remember what happened 11 months ago, so to jog your memory, bring out your planner, calendar, journal and any digital device you use to store information. Look at all the entries you have made this year: birthdays, weddings and other celebrations, appointments, deadlines, classes and workshops, vacations, retreats and all the events that occurred this year. I bet, there's a lot more things than you remembered! There was a lot of great, successful, positive and inspiring things you have accomplished. What dreams came true? What new things you learned during the year? What are you ready to release?
Remember - what you focus on, expands! Spend a little time giving gratitude for all the things you were able to do this year. This is a great way to invite even more amazing things into the New Year.
Approach the New Year from a place of gratitude, wonder and imagination. What amazing things are you dreaming up? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to do differently? Which things you would like to do again?
If you would like to get more juicy prompts, great questions and inspiring, creative thoughts sprinkled with amazingly colorful art, then you should order your 2014 Create Your Incredible Year Workbook and Planner, it is available in both Life and Business editions. For the first time this year, you can get it in a printed format as well as e-version. All for the price of a coupe of lattes.
I am looking forward to another great Closing Ceremony this year and relishing in all of the great things I have done in 2013. What a great way to end the year!
