"Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most, live the longest." -Larry Lorenzoni
I celebrate my birthday this month and several years ago I adopted the idea of celebrating it all month long! I did an experiment and decided to treat myself the way I would treat others. All I can say is that I have had the most incredible birthday experiences during the past couple of years!
The results have been pretty amazing - all of the things I deeply wished and desired showed up in my life without any effort on my part. The only thing I did was to allow myself to imagine and connect to my deep longing.
I believe that celebrating our birth is one of the biggest expressions of self-love and sets a great example for others to follow. Many cultures actually celebrate baby's birthday for weeks and months, many have week-long wedding celebrations and the idea of honeymoon is celebrating the love and the birth of a new family for an entire month!
So, here's a challenge for you to allow more self love into your life - celebrate your birthday (or any other occasion) all month long!
Here's my guide to Having the best Birthday Month ever:
First get out a piece of paper and some colored markers or pens and allow yourself to imagine how do you want to feel on your birthday?
Express those feelings with words, images and colors and fill the page with words like loved, connected, celebrated, appreciated, joyful... anything that comes to mind...
Then, add some festive decorations to the page and draw/doodle some confetti, balloons, flowers, a birthday cake with candles... Also imagine the small or big gifts you would like to receive on your special day - draw little doodles and symbols of the gifts on the page.
Here's a great fill-in-the-blank poem for you to try to get in the right mood. Just write down the first word that comes to mind as you read and complete each line. Going with your first intuitive hit produces the juiciest results:
My birthday looks like ___________
My birthday smells like ___________
My birthday tastes like ___________
My birthday sounds like ___________
My birthday feels like ___________
Add your completed poem to your page too! Try drawing it too or creating a collage out of magazine images! This doesn't need to artistic, just express your feelings.
In the months and days leading up to your birthday, review your drawing/collage often (daily is best) and really allow yourself to get in the excitement of the day, imagine receiving the gifts, having a big surprise party, or an intimate dinner, being surrounded by friends and family and receiving all the things that you desire both material and non-material.
You don't need to wait until your actual birthday arrives. At the beginning of your birth month, start giving yourself some small inexpensive gifts that will get you in the festive mood! If you birthday is in the beginning of the month, then continue the celebration until the end. The gifts you give yourself don't need to cost a lot, unless you've got some extra cash on hand! I usually do something special for myself each week.
Here's a list of free or low-cost things that will help you get started:
Google search for "birthday freebies" to see all the special offers available.
What I have discovered is when I get into a celebratory mood and give myself small gifts of appreciation - others get in on the fun too! I think, when we start treating ourselves with love and kindness rather then waiting for others to do it - we start vibrating at at a higher frequency, the one of self-love rather then neediness. The higher frequency attracts things that resonate with the high vibration.
For the past couple of years that done the above process, I have received many gifts, cards, surprise parties and the best homemade cake - all without any planning or even preparation on my part. So I invite you to give this challenge a try. And the best part is if you already celebrated your birthday, there's another one coming and it's never too early to start celebrating!
Happy Birth Month to the beautiful, radiant, special Being that You Are!
