“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
― John Lubbock, The Use Of Life
It's not a secret that rest is essential for our well being. With the busy holiday season and new school year just around the corner, it's even more important to rest as much as possible. It's not surprising that the end of summer is the most popular time for vacations - everyone is trying to soak up those last rays of sunshine before the cold and the rain come.
This month's creative challenge is to get as much rest as you can! However, there is no need to wait until you go on vacation. Rest can be as short as a deep breath and as long as a month-long getaway. So, go ahead and take a deep breath: all the way in ... and all the way out. Didn't that feel good?
Rest doesn't necessarily mean doing nothing either. Sometimes, enjoying your favorite activity such as reading, painting or playing a musical instrument, can be very revitalizing.
Here are some of my favorite ways to rest that are easy and free:
Take quiet time.
Go for a leisurely walk.
Read for pleasure.
Listen to the birds.
Take a nice bath.
Watch a sunrise or a sunset.
Go to the beach.
Listen to the music.
Go to the park.
Doodle, draw or paint.
Take a nap.
Enjoy a cup of tea ... alone or with company...
Answer the following questions, to get more insights on how you prefer to rest:
Does it feel like these are luxuries you don't have time for or do you regularly include periods of rest in your day?
Do you prefer to rest alone or in company of others?
Do enjoy stillness or activity?
What are your favorite places to rest?
Go ahead and make a list of all the ways you like to rest and Happy Resting!
“Rest and be thankful.”
― William Wordsworth
